Nope, that is not our style thank you very much!
Rest assured, these style rules will not include squeezing, sucking in or dieting.
We don’t believe that there has to be pain in order to gain – you deserve to look incredible today, and we can show you how with our 13 style rules for curvy ladies.
Curvy Rule Number 1
Always, always, always….follow the rules for your shape. This is the single most important factor in looking great every single day. Your body shape rules allow you room to experiment, while making sure you and your curves still look your best.
Curvy Rule Number 2
Make sure that your outfits are in proportion. By this we mean thinking about your silhouette. If you are wearing a flowing top, wear a fitted skirt or pants. Likewise, if you are wearing a flowing skirt or pants, opt for a fitted top. This will prevent your figure from being lost amongst the fabric – giving the unwanted illusion that you are bigger than you really are.
Curvy Rule Number 3
Great underwear is the foundation for a great overall look, so we recommend that you invest in the best underwear that your budget allows. Your curves need to be supported in a strong, perfectly fitted bra. This will make sure that your bosom stays where it should be, keeping you looking fabulous.
Curvy Rule Number 4
Your best, most flattering option for an outfit is a simple, V neck, cinched at the waist type dress. So be sure to have a couple of these in your closet!
Curvy Rule Number 5
Don’t hide your waist!
If you wear shirts or loose tops, be sure to tuck them into your pants to show off your waistline. Avoid big baggy items such as ponchos, which could leave you looking like a sack of potatoes.
Curvy Rule Number 6
While we are on the subject of waistlines, don’t forget to accessorize with belts. Some curvy ladies think that they shouldn’t wear belts, but this is far from the truth. Experiment and see what works best. Our top tips for belts on curvy figures are to go for a wide style with a little elastic to gently enhance your waist.
Curvy Rule Number 7
We love jackets on all body shapes. They are a perfect way to look polished in a minute. For curvy body shapes we recommend fitted jackets to compliment the figure. Steer clear of boxy coats unless you are at risk of hypothermia!
Curvy Rule Number 8
Let’s chat pants. For our curvy sisters we would suggest that you look for styles which have a flat front and ideally a side zip. This is the best choice to prevent bulkiness at the waist, and will always look good on you.
When choosing jeans, opt for mid or high rise, with just a touch of stretch in the material.
Curvy Rule Number 9
Skirts are a curvy girl’s best friend. Most styles look fantastic, so try A line, pencil or skater. Pleats are not so great, or any other style that gathers at the waist.
Curvy Rule Number 10
There is a secret trick to layering that can make curvy figures look their best. It is so simple too – just layer darker colors under lighter colors for a slimming illusion with minimal effort.
Curvy Rule Number 11
Ignore the out-dated advice that you may have taken to memory over the years. Here are some mythbusters.
- Go ahead and try some color, it is a wonderful way to bring your closet to life and add interest. Don’t feel that you have to stick to black all of the time.
- Yes, curvy girls can wear patterns. Just stick to either the top or bottom, and look for smaller prints.
- You can even wear horizontal stripes of you feel the urge! All you need to do is break up the pattern with a jacket or pants.
Curvy Rule Number 12
Try to resist every fashion trend that appears on your radar if they are in opposition with your style rules. Just because something looks good on the catwalk, it doesn’t mean that you will pull it off.
Instead we recommend that you stick to the right clothes for your shape, and focus on timeless stylish classics. That isn’t to say that you need to be boring though! Once you have the rules committed to memory you can have fun adding exciting and interesting pieces to your closet.
Curvy Rule Number 13
Don’t be scared to show off your assets! Go ahead and highlight your best bits, just be careful to keep it all in balance. If you are wearing a plunging neckline, cover your legs for example. The higher the heel, the lower the hemline is another great rule to remember too.
Being curvaceous is not a call to cover up and hide your gorgeous body. With these simple rules you can showcase your figure – leaving you looking and feeling great everyday.
