How To Get The Most Out Of Life: Living Longer And Healthier
Did you know that here at My Style Rules our main aim is to make women feel better about themselves? Seriously, that is exactly what got this whole shebang started. Once you understand that, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see this post – giving guidance on how to live a longer / healthier life.
You see, for us, looking and feeling great isn’t only about clothes. It is part of an amazing upwards cycle of happiness – the opposite to the downward cycle of misery that many of us have been a part of at some point.
This is what it looks like:
It starts with feeling a bit lousy. Hating everything in your closet. Not having a clue what to wear, or where to buy from. Feeling fed up and overwhelmed, you chuck on your baggy old sweater and eat another slice of cake.
This can go on for months or even years. And it only gets worse.
My Style Rules is here to put a spanner in the works and stop that cycle in it’s tracks. And by following some simple rules you can reverse the whole thing. Watch this:
You learn about your true body shape and buy a new outfit that is perfectly suited for you. You wear the new outfit and feel amazing. You are filled with confidence, and renewed enthusiasm. You don’t feel the need for the extra slice of cake. You feel like taking a walk.
See how it works? It may not be as straight a road as I have suggested her, but the truth is, feeling good about yourself changes everything. Just a simple shift in consciousness can be like the first domino in a whole series of changes.
So without further ado, here are the My Style Rules suggestions to help you enjoy a longer, healthier life.
This is a nag, but you should know better! Smoking is terrible for your health…..you don’t need the facts and figures.
But it also causes wrinkles around your mouth, makes you smelly and can lead to burn holes in your clothes!!
Get Plenty Of Sleep
Rest is vitally important, so be sure that you get the optimum amount of sleep that you need to feel good. The actual amount varies greatly between different individuals…but it tends to be between 6 and 9 hours. Play around and see what works best for you. Bizarrely too much sleep can leave you just as groggy as not enough. Personally I like to aim for an earlier night and an earlier start, with 8 hours under my belt. Waking with the birds leaves me feeling relaxed, unhurried and productive. I recommend giving it a go!
Move Your Body
Exercise can take many forms, but whichever you choose it must not be left out of your lifestyle. Find something that you enjoy doing and build that into your day. If you can get out into nature at the same time then even better!
Some of the best ways to get your body moving are long scenic walks, yoga, dancing, swimming – even surfing! Why not? Think out of the box and have fun. It doesn’t have to involve a treadmill.
Eat A Varied Diet
No, I am not going to tell you to go on a diet!
What I will recommend is that you eat a varied diet that includes as much fresh stuff as possible. Limit your chemical intake. Limit the amount of sugar. Limit the amount of foods that your grandma wouldn’t recognize. And pile on the fruits and vegetables.
Overeating should also be avoided whenever possible, as it taxes your system. Eating just enough slows down the aging process over time.
Drink A Little Wine
Don’t drink too much alcohol! But go ahead and have a little.
There is a ton of contradictory advice when it comes to drinking – but the consensus seems to be that red wine is acceptable and even beneficial. So go ahead and have a little every now and again.
Drink A Lot Of Water
Water is your friend!
We are made up of 70% water, and our brains are closer to 80% water in fact. The vast majority of us walking around on this planet are chronically dehydrated, and the effect that this can have on the body is wild. Every single cell needs water to complete vital chemical reactions that make us function as we should. Help them all out and drink at least 2 liters every single day.
See Your Friends
Make sure that you keep in contact with your friends. Relaxed socializing is a vital part of a long and healthy life. Loneliness can be devastating, being a main cause of depression and even potential inflammation within the body.
Being intimate with your partner is another way to boost health – just look at all of these benefits!
- lowers blood pressure
- improves sleep
- boosts immune system
- protect heart
- burn calories
- forge loving connection
Plus it is more fun than going for a jog, right?
Reduce TV Time
People that spend more than 4 hours a day in front of the screen are thought to live shorter lives than those who reduce their screen time according to research. Cut your TV time back and spend those precious minutes doing something useful instead. If you need to relax, read a book or take a bath. If you want to reduce stress, prepare for the next morning, choosing your outfit or preparing healthy meals for example.
Time is our most limited and valuable resource, so don’t fritter it away in front of the box.
Protect Yourself From The Sun
While we need some sunshine in our lives for many reasons, we are all too aware of its power. Skin damage, premature aging and even skin cancer can be caused by exposure to the sun, so be sure to protect yourself with a sun block. This is necessary even when you are spending the day inside the office, because those rays aren’t scared of your windows!
This last tip is my personal favorite. If you approach life with love in your heart, feeling grateful for all of the things you have been blessed with, you will find that your days overflow with happiness. Just a simple shift towards gratitude, instead of complaining and moaning can change everything. Give it a try, and don’t complain for 24 hours. It is tricky at first, but will be worth it.
So these are our top ways to make sure that the life you live is as long and healthy as it possibly can be. Life is short, so fill yours with happy experiences, and don’t waste a moment beating yourself up about areas that you think you fall short.
We want to do everything that we can to make you feel better about yourself so that you can open your arms and embrace every single thing that your life offers to you – because you cannot imagine the wonderful things that are coming your way. Don’t let your false feelings of unworthiness, frumpiness and insecurity hold you back a minute longer. Knock over that first domino and get ready for the ride!
