The Underwear Story
The word ‘underneath’ comes with a few connotations. To me, it always sounds so dark and scary, don’t you agree? Maybe I have watched too many horror movies. Today we are going to be looking at what is underneath your clothes….. Now I don’t want to hear that this is also something that should be in a horror movie. 😉
In fact, hold your judgements altogether, let’s try this instead:
What would your underwear say if it could talk?
Hmmm something to think about, well I don’t know if I even want to think about that! I am sure a few of you are sitting there smiling because you know exactly what they would say.
Let’s imagine them with big red lips, chewing on a piece of gum and perhaps saying: “You’ll drop me as soon as you get someone hot.”
Hopefully they don’t say “I hate my job”, because that is their only job! And to prevent them from saying that they “need more space” here is all you need to know about underwear!
B is for Bra!
A bra, as we know, has multiple functions, they are not just there for the support. As Neneh Cherry shared, “Who needs a handbag? I put my money in my bra.” So the next time you see a lady without a handbag, you know where her ‘stash’ is hidden.
Nonetheless, we all know that a bra can be a lot like a friend, hopefully offering support, but only if we choose the right one. Around 80% of women are currently wearing the wrong size, so here are some tips to help you get it right.
The 2-finger Rule
Can you comfortably fit 2 fingers between your back and the bra. This will ensure that your bra fits comfortably, without restricting your rib cage and causing pain.
Check Your Chest
Take a look at how your bra is sitting in the middle of your chest. It should be sitting flat, with no digging in (especially when it comes to wires).
Take a look at the cups, they should be neither half empty nor half full! Spillage could mean that the cup is too small, and empty gaps probably means your cup is too big. Both issues will not give you the support that you need.
The tighter the better is an old fashioned fallacy. It is ideal is to use middle bra hook, or the loosest bra hook. Then as the bra becomes more slack with washing, you can gradually go tighter.
When you are fitting a new bra, stand up straight with your arms by your sides facing the mirror. Ensure that your bra straps lay at the end of your collarbone, your breasts needs to be dead set in the middle between your shoulders and elbows. If not you will probably need something that will support your breast more.
It’s Behind You
You can’t really always avoid a back bulge, but an extreme back bulge happens when your bra is too small, so try a size bigger and it will do wonders.
Dress It Up
Before you settle on a bra, you need to know how it looks under clothes. So try a shirt on over the bra and see how you feel. Move a little and find out how it copes with everyday life.
It is vital that sports bras fit comfortably, as these will take more strain than most and one that is too tight will chafe. The material should also allow perspiration to escape, keeping the skin as fresh as possible.
There is a bra out there for every type of women, from lacy to sporty, and as long as the fit is right, you will look fabulous!
Now For The Panties
But we are not quite done on the subject underwear. Bras are of course, only half of the story.
As for panties….well can’t we just go without them? Most women will argue and tell me that you HAVE to wear them, so take a look at this:
According to some scientific research: Women should not wear underwear!
Your lady-parts need to breath! Panties can create a warm and moist environment, perfect for brewing a yeast infection.
Without knickers, your VPL (visible panty line) risk will drop to zero!
You will also never need to worry about underwear riding up, requiring unladylike removal, and you may even feel more sensual. Still shaking your head at me? Fair enough, let’s look at the panty options out there. Because, whether you chose to go with or without them, it is all up to you.
Fashion trends are moving to a more comfortable, fuller style of undergarment. Think granny-knickers rather than G-string.
Women’s retailers, ‘Ten Undies’ and ‘Me and You’, have reported that sales in their own full-coverage designs have grown, and that this growth is not slowing down.
So it seems ‘boy shorts’ and full panties are the new thong, and this trend for comfort over sauciness has already hit the red carpet!
But as we always say, you can look great in anything as long as it fits your body shape. So go ahead and follow the trend, stick to your lacy thongs or wear nothing at all. Maybe no one will see or perhaps you get the urge to put it on Instagram, as long as you are comfy, it is all up to you!
Underwear comes in all shapes, materials, colors and yes flavors too. So let your mood choose your undies, and they will speak for themselves!
